Introducing: Zodiac N Black

Rock. Has it lost it’s balls? Looking at bands that are classed as “rock” in recent years and bands like Black Veil Brides are listed, it makes you kind of sad. But as ever, there’s always a band that prove rock isn’t dead and it’s here to stay.

Zodiac n Black are a hard rock outfit from London. Crossing grooves from Queens Of The Stone Age with the likes of Led Zeppelin, Zodiac n Black have an old time, classic rock feel mixed with a modern twist to it. Rarely does a band come out with catchy sounds and it not being an annoying pop record but it’s safe to say that Zodiac n Black are smashing that theory to pieces. Big crunching riffs, catchy rhythms, classic rock style vocals and rock so hard it will tear your face off.

Don’t believe it? Why not check out Bastinado, a track from their upcoming debut album The Aftermyth, due out in 2012. So if you’re sick of these made to order rock bands getting all the attention, then do something about it and give your support to four young dudes from England about to turn rock on it’s head. Keep an eye out for them.

Introducing: The Self Titled

As The Self Titled edge closer to their 2nd birthday in the music scene, they show no signs of slowing down just yet. Infact, they’ve only just begun. Having seemed to have settled in with a fixed line up at the moment, since mid 2011 The Self Titled have played non stop throughout the UK. Having played with bands like Kobra And the Lotus and Forever Never, as well as at The Bulldog Bash alongside Status Quo and punk heroes The Damned – The Self Titled look set to be one of Britain’s next big rock n’ roll acts.

The band have since been signed by ex-Iron Maiden frontman Blaze Bayley on his own record label and with songs such as Soul Control, it’s clear the band mean business. They play heavy rock which contains a dose of modern day Metallica and a heap of the cowboys Hellyeah.

The Self Titled may not be the best band name in the world however, but it’s not their unusual name that sticks out. The Self Titled play an array of different music genres showing that they will appeal to anyone rather than just the metalheads. Aggressive rock with crunching guitar riffs and hard hitting drums with the perfect voice over the top of it. What more could you possibly want?

With their debut album scheduled for release in 2012, it’s going to be a big year for the band.

Featured artist: Arse Full of Chips

With a name like “Arse Full Of Chips”, it’s hard to imagine what to expect but it may come as no surprise to find out that Arse Full of Chips are indeed a comedy band. Unlike most comedy acts, Arse Full of Chips are actually a full band. Arse Full of Chips hail from Nottingham and are a mixture of ska and comedy. Think Madness crosses Kunt and the Gang and you have Arse Full of Chips.

In fact, not a lot really needs to be said about them. Nothing at all. Reading about them will not do them justice. They don’t really need an introduction, but here is Arse Full of Chips and their song “Shoulda Gone to Specsavers (Harry Potter song)”.

For fans of: ska, Kunt and the Gang.

Artist Of The Week (return special!): A Billion Ernies

The return of the Artist Of The Week feature is here! and to kick us off this week (as we end it)..A Billion Ernies!

A Billion Ernies make modern day racious ska punk straight out of California. Their style of ska punk has everything you want: the punk rock ethic, the brass instruments, the punk riffs and the gritty attitude. If ever there was a band that hadn’t needed to be heard, it should be A Billion Ernies. The band, who have been together almost 10 years, state that although there have been twists and turns – they wouldn’t have it any other way.

Taking inspiration from the likes of Refused, RX Bandits and even The Dillinger Escape Plan, the band have since released 3 albums, as well as EPs and last year a split with Informat – which contained 5 new phenomenal tracks. The opening track Hopeless, probably the heaviest out of the 5 showcases the bands more hardcore side whilst Eight Long Years (a reference to how long the band have been together) fuses their hardcore side with their ska side creating an epic monster of a track.

For those who say punk is dead, A Billion Ernies are a band who will turn round and give a big “fuck you!” to you right in your face before turning back around laughing. Sure, the days of Sex Pistols and Ramones have been long gone now, but it’s now 2011 and as long as there are still bands such as A Billion Ernies putting in the work…who really needs another Johnny Rotten?

Scumbag Philosopher: New single + tour dates with The Fall

Scumbag Philosopher (formerly ‘Fuck Dress’) are to release (or rather re-release) their single God Is Dead So I Listen To Radiohead.

The song was first released a couple of years ago on a limited edition 7″ single and was an indie hit in Italy and Spain. But now the band are hoping it proves to be a hit in other countries as it gets it re-release on US label, Words On Music on Monday 6th June. The song has the sound of what Jez from Peep Show’s music would sound like if he joined an indie band and..you know, wasn’t shit at making music.

The video to accompany the song has already been up over a year, but now that it has a re-release, it’s only neccessary to post it again. It’s…strange and doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, much like Radiohead then – who’s video for Just is spoofed in the following video!

The single is taken from the band’s debut album which will be released a little later in the summer and will be called It Means Nothing So It Means Nothing.

The band will also be playing a few dates over June and July:

Here are some live dates.

Wed 1st June – KOKO, London (with The Fall)
Fri 3rd June – MOHO Live, Manchester (with The Fall)
Sat 11th June – Glade Festival
Sat 2nd July – Manchester Roadhouse

According to the band, God Is Dead So I Listen To Radiohead is “about a certain kind of suburban Nietzsche freak who attaches themselves to certain introspective musicians and to certain philosophers – or rather to their more well-known quotes.” Nothing too in depth then!

We were aiming for something a little bit more epic that our previous material and I’m really excited with where our sound is going.”

Night Noise Team announce Free MP3 ‘You Won’ from their new album ‘Slow Release’

As Night Noise Team gear up for the release of their new album ‘Slow Release’, they’re making available a free MP3 from the record, ‘You Won’.

Vocal Sean Ormsby explains the band’s choice of MP3;

“When ‘You Won’ was initially recorded, I described it as a ‘reflective banger’. I meant that, while it’s thoughtful and layered, it’s also danceable and direct. I’m choosing it now not only as a faithful distillation of our sound, but also a way into some of the lyrical and musical contradictions at the heart of this album.”

Introducing: Golden Tanks + debut EP review

For a band who are only just releasing their debut EP, Golden Tanks have clocked up quite an impressive ammount of attention. Having shared stages with some of Britain’s hottest up and comers such as Your Demise, Feed The Rhino and Dead Swans as well as Rock Reviews 24/7′s album of the 2010 titans, Lower Than Atlantis.

Having just got from a tour with Our Time Down Here, the band have got lots of plans for 2011. The first of which is releasing their debut self-titled EP. The 4 track EP is an brilliantly polished slab of the kind of punk that the UK has been craving for so long. With a sound that could easily be mistaken for that of Every Time I Die, with their hardcore punk mixed with the Southern rock of ETID, the band’s riffs will have faces being torn off and melted. “Mace” is a song not only with a catchy riff to it, but the music blends in perfectly to make people want to get up and mosh instantly wherever they are.

Dead Strings wouldn’t sound far out of place even on Watford punks’ Gallows debut Orchestra of Wolves and with big songs like this, this is only just the start from Golden Tanks. With big tours planned for 2011 and presumably more music, this band could well be on their way to being another British big-hitter.
