Waldner – Found & Lost review

It may seem when listening to David Waldner’s (or Waldner, as is his recording name) Found & Lost, that title name is a bit odd. Maybe it’s because Waldner may well have been lost, but as of now it seems he has found himself as well as his feet and the ground he’s safely stepping on.

Waldner is a breath of fresh air in today’s music, it’s uplifting and often cheerfully catchy. Where most albums fall flat with their depressing, dark and often melodic guitar ballads – Waldner succeeds in keeping us entertained with his own style of rock and pop acoustic melodies.

Influenced by The E Street Band and The Beatles, as well as the Decemberists, the album opens with Going Up Against Goliath and very rarely does that bar drop any lower. The album has a lot of meaning, tracks like Rude Awakening are something that possess something beautiful and that is realism. If writing about what you see could win you a trophy, than Waldner’s cabinet would be filled.

Although the songs may blend in to each other, listening to them individually could not be more perfect. The true fact is that Found & Lost is a fantastic album and songs such as In Stone and The Wonderful Pain show exactly how Waldner likes to do things. This album is great to chill out to, relax to or even coming home from a long day’s work – whether it be on the bus, in the car, walking or even sitting down at home.

As aforementioned, Found & Lost is quite the opposite of David Waldner’s current situation. He’s found his feet and found his home – London. It’s miles away from where he was back in Canada (where he appeared on TV) but if he’s settled, than so should we be. 2011 seems like a productive year for the singer songwriter.

Put the album on, relax and sooth your soul.

Out May 9th on Blue Fleur Musik.
